The Canterbury name lives on in the guise of the RNZN's new troop transport - the Multi Role Vessel (MRV).
This MRV will provide a sealift capability for the transport and deployment of equipment, vehicles and personnel and be capable of transferring cargo and personnel ashore when port facilities are not available and to provide sea training capability for the RNZN.

Flight deck: two helicopters (or one Chinook) – the ship will be able to operate the Navy’s Seasprite and/or the RNZAF’s new NH-90.
